Levelled Literacy Intervention is a powerful reading intervention program for students from Prep to Yr 6.
Levelled Literacy Intervention is a research-based system that is designed to prevent literacy difficulties. It has proven highly successful in providing systematic, sequenced, intensive instruction to help struggling readers make the accelerated progress they need.
Students at Moorooka SS are provided 4, 30minute lessons per week. They are provided in small groups of similar ability students. LLI provides a well-defined framework for lessons with our Teacher Aides. They follow and make decisions specific to observations of the students’ needs. The lessons include reading familiar text, writing, phonics, word study, new texts and comprehension work.
The focus of reading is a deep comprehension of text. The focus of writing is for students to learn how to compose, construct and develop essential strategies for writing. The students learn how to use sound analysis, important spelling skills and early writing conventions.
The lessons include systematic phonics and focus on key aspects of phonics learning: phonological awareness, letter knowledge, letter-sound relationships, letter formation, word structure, spelling patterns and high frequency words.
LLI is a short term intervention. It is designed to bring students to year-level performance in an average of 14 - 18 weeks. As one students exits another student enters.
