At Moorooka State School we have a Speech Language Pathologist, Ms Amelia Ricchetti who works here 2 days per week.
What do
speech-language pathologists do?
- Work with teaching staff to optimise explicit teaching of learning activities to build the communication skills of all students
- Identify students with difficulties in communication. Communication can encompass any of the following
-
Speech (how sounds are produced)
- Language (making sense of and using words/sentences/paragraphs to communicate with others)
- Phonological awareness (knowledge of sounds in words, important for learning to read)
- Reading and writing (where there is a basis in phonological awareness),
- Fluency (speaking with good rhythm and flow).
- Support communication development of
students with identified needs.
