English as an additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D)
learners are those whose first language is a language or dialect other than
English and who require additional support to assist them to develop
proficiency in SAE (Standard Australian English).
At Moorooka State School high quality EAL/D
programmes are targeted to meet the identified needs of EAL/D learners and
focus on achieving specified English language and literacy outcomes. They are
characterised by explicit teaching of target language and by flexible delivery
and continuity of provision. They are informed by teacher understandings about
the English language, literacy and the cultural demands of the curriculum and
the present capacity of their EAL/D learners to meet these demands.
Currently Moorooka State School has a fulltime
EAL/D teacher along with supporting Teacher Aide time.
