At Moorooka State School we live our vision: ‘to grow a community of curious, respectful and connected learners’. In our wonderful school where great things happen every day, you see smiling faces and feel the joy of our students. We vary learning pathways to cater for each child’s success and we are excited to welcome you and your children into this caring community.

We are One Team. Working in partnership with parents and carers, we strive to position all students for success in this ever-changing world. Parents and carers play a pivotal role in the education of their child. Current research links a high level of parental involvement in schooling with a child’s future learning success. When the key ‘people’, the student, the parent and the educator, are working in harmony, effective and lasting learning can take place.

We have a highly skilled staff, including a Principal, Deputy Principal, Head of Department-Curriculum and Head of Department-Inclusion, Teachers and Teacher Aides. Specialists provide teaching in music, visual arts, health and physical education, Japanese language and inclusive practices (support and gifted education). Our Administration Officers, Business Manager, School’s Officer and Cleaners provide invaluable services. Working alongside our staff are our dedicated Parents’ and Citizens’ Association, volunteers and community members.

Staff and parents often say that our school has ‘a wonderful community of learners who work well together’ and ‘is a great school that cares and supports our children’. We believe it is an idyllic place for children to spend their primary years: situated in the family-oriented suburb of Moorooka, nearby Toohey Forest and just 7 kilometres from the Brisbane city centre. Many school families are second-generation and proud of their school’s heritage and traditions. Our students learn the Australian Curriculum https://www.australiancurriculum.edu.au/  through high quality instruction in English, Mathematics, Science, The Arts, Technologies, Language – Japanese, History and Study of Society and Health and Physical Education. We place our students’ wellbeing at the forefront of everything we do and have high expectations for behaviour and school uniform, creating a strong sense of belonging, school pride and a safe environment.

The school facilities are continually being upgraded to match student learning needs and our key teaching approaches of Explicit Instruction, Inquiry and Nature play. Nature Play is a valued part of the curriculum and practice. Extensive research indicates that engaging in regular nature play and learning outside of the classroom significantly improves children's academic, physical, social and emotional development. We are proud to be an accredited GOLD level Nature Play school.

Moorooka SS has extensive indoor and outdoor learning areas: welcoming classrooms, a library, visual arts room, instrumental music room, a computer lab, kitchen garden, nature play and loose play areas, a multipurpose hall, a swimming pool, facilities for playing soccer, cricket and tennis and a userpay Outside Hours Care program https://www.schoolplus.com.au/ Students and staff also use a range of interactive and digital devices to support learning for a connected world.

These extracurricular activities also support our students to learn and grow:

· Student Leadership: Year 6 leaders, Prep buddies, Year 5 Meerkat Mates, student council, assembly speeches, school events, student newsletter, recycling,

· academic and sporting competitions at local, state and national level

· musical excellence through choirs, strings, brass, woodwind, percussion programs

· school camps for Year 4, 5 and 6

· private providers of programs such as sports, drama, chess, robotics and coding

A daily highlight is the wonderful interactions between staff, students and families. I am constantly impressed with the quality of teaching, the excitement of our young learners and the positivity and support from families. We are blessed with an excellent learning environment, a first-class staff, supportive community and a fabulous students!
