As a non-teaching staff member, the chaplain operates as a support person for the children to connect with in the school environment.

Chaplains provide a listening ear, caring presence and message of hope as students seek to deal with a wide range of issues such as family problems, friendship issues, peer pressure, self-esteem issues and self-control.

The chaplaincy service operates lunchtime activities, special events such as Chappy Pancakes, one-to-one appointments with students, classroom social skills and personal development programmes and support for families, including the Triple P Positive Parenting Programme. Through her interaction across the school Chappie Ange has developed a true sense of community feel with special events, such as the Mother-Daughter night and the Father-Son camp out, providing wonderful opportunities for the school community to come together.

Scripture Union (SU) Qld is the accredited employing authority for the school chaplain at Moorooka State School. Officially endorsed by Education Queensland, SU QLD appoints, trains and supports state school chaplains.

It is an interdenominational Christian organisation which has worked in schools for 80 years and has successfully employed chaplains with Education Queensland endorsement since 1990.
