State of Origin fever grips Moorooka students

School sports captains Freya Gleaves and Kyrianthe Nettos are used to friendly competition on the field, but come State of Origin time it gets serious.

The Year 7 students from Moorooka State School lead rival sporting houses at their primary school, and while they're great friends off the sporting field they are passionate adversaries when it comes to football.

Like many across the state, the students of Moorooka primary school are dressing up in style to support their teams in tonight's clash, and engaging in friendly state rivalry.

Although some of her fellow students are opponents today, Freya said regardless of the result friendship would resume as normal tomorrow - at least as long as the Maroons won.

"We'll be talking to each other, but I'll be rubbing it in,'' she says.

However it's not all about state versus state for some of the footy-savvy primary schoolers.

School captain Jackson Miller is more excited about just watching a great game of football and cheering on his favourite player, Billy Slater.

"I look up to him because he's a true sportsman. He's fair and he's honest,'' Jackson said.
